Some of you may remember those tripod canes that wound up filed away in the garage?!  At Conductive Education, they tried and tried Brooke with these and she could never quite grasp that concept.  "Cane, cane, step, step."  Oh, the number of times we said that and the hours practicing at the Ronald McDonald House in Michigan.  I told myself, that this was something she wasn't going to master.  I would look at other kids use them and wonder how they could manage "four" feet.  Well, Sunday I dusted off the tripods.  If that little stinker didn't go through the kitchen and livingroom, by herself!!  We went outside, and at 9 years old, that was the first time she was able to walk in the grass by herself.  (We have actually envisioned paving some sort of path for her in the back yard so she could be mobile with her walker.)  Monday morning she saw her canes at the foot of the stairs and pointed and said "canes" and signed "me."  She's so thrilled with her accomplishments.  Her PT today couldn't believe how smoothly she uses the canes.  She even gave me a hug she is so excited for Brooke's improvements.   Seems to me the stem cells weren't rejected.

Glad to hear that Brooke is doing so well. You and Ed must be extremely pleased with her progress. It won't be long, she'll be asking to get her drivers license. May the good Lord continue to smile upon Brooke and give you both the strength to continue in her progress. Our prayers are with you all. Love, Dick & Phyllis
